The Dangers of an Obama Presidency

Now that the dream of an African American Presidency is a reality, what's next? I am fearful that this historic feat will lead to complacency among many voters who like me, voted for Obama.

African Americans must keep their eyes on the prize. As the history books continues to be rewritten, that rewriting must be accomplished by real change that ordinary citizens can experience. Failure to do so will render new leadership ineffective.

I am hoping that those who sought change will be not be afraid to show righteous indignation if it's required. In New York State, we are approaching the beginning of a budget slash and burn governor. If we are all in this together, Governor Patterson should start by taking a pay cut in his annual salary as a show of solidarity with the unemployed and working class. But that will never happen.

Amazingly, those who will be affected the most by Governor Patterson's slash and burn budget proposal continue to remain silent. Only time will tell if the faithful has the backbone to stand up and let their voices be heard.
